The best thing your web site can do is reflect who you are and what you're all about. If you're a company, then the site needs to reflect the feel that you want people to have when they think of you. This is one of the very few mediums where people are given an opportunity to not only see your brand, but interact with it. Keep it interesting enough to draw in your audience, simple to navigate and easy to update. There are information hungry people showing up at your site, so keep 'em fed.
First, we'll sit down and talk about who you are and what you're all about. Once I get an idea for the look and feel you're trying to achieve, I'll reach deep down into my design pockets and put together an experienced team to get your site up and looking ready for show to your customers/clients/friends/enemies/etc.
At the end of the design phase, we'll move straight into the Content Managment side of things. I highly recommend this step to all my clients. You need control over your site and you don't want to be at the mercy of a design company or busy freelancer to get important updates taken care of.
Regardless of whether the project is print design or web, I'll make sure you have the right person for the job. You'll see from my portfolio that I don't really have a set design style. My favorite part of the design process is tailoring the project to the client. If I find something that I don't feel I have all the necessary skills to complete, I will bring in one of my many talented freelance associates. You'll notice this in the layout of the Gallery Page on the Coleman & Associates site, the posters for Creative Minds in Cannes and the layout of the Foodheads web site to name a few.
Client centered creative direction has become too rare in the development of Web Design. Designers will change out the Header graphics, toss your logo here and find a few pictures that relate to what you're selling, but that's sloppy design and ineffective marketing. I'm proud to be one of the designers out there who are working for my clients and not for the easy way out.
